Requesting NCDR® Data to Conduct Research
As part of its mission, the NCDR encourages applications from individual researchers and organizations interested in querying registry data to answer clinical questions that can potentially improve cardiovascular patient care. The research pipeline process encompasses:
  • Initial proposal review, approval and prioritization by the NCDR Research and Publication Subcommittee
  • Analysis by an NCDR-designated analytic center
  • Manuscript and abstract oversight
Patient, hospital and physician confidentiality is always protected. All projects are supervised by our research committee to ensure adherence to NCDR data access and use policies and procedures, as well as relevant regulations.

Data may be requested for two purposes
  • For projects requiring only descriptive statistics, submit the NCDR Data Request Application.
  • For hypothesis-driven research based upon secondary analysis of NCDR data, submit a registry-specific NCDR Research Proposal Application (RPA).
Both forms are available by clicking the appropriate registry logo below.

Application Instructions and Author Guidelines

Research Proposal Application (RPA)

Steps for Submitting a Research Proposal:
  1. The NCDR encourages original research. Please consider whether the topic has already been studied before completing a Research Proposal Application (RPA). The NCDR Manuscripts by Registry and NCDR Abstracts by Registry documents provide listings of manuscripts and abstracts that have been published or are in press.
  2. Review submission deadlines provided in the NCDR Research Calendar.
  3. Once you have developed your research idea(s) with a focus on the analysis of data from an NCDR registry, click here to download the Research Proposal Application (RPA)
  4. Submit the RPA by email to NCDRresearch@acc.org.
  5. Once submitted, a staff member will contact you with an assigned registry-specific tracking number. Your submission will then move forward for review at the next appropriate registry committee meeting. Additional details will be provided to you after your proposal has been reviewed. Information concerning the policies and procedures (including timelines) for developing abstracts and manuscripts for research projects may be found in our Author Guidelines.
