Through its suite of NCDR clinical data registries and quality improvement programs, the ACC is helping institutions bridge gaps between science and practice and improve the quality of cardiovascular care they deliver. This year, the College is taking quality improvement to the next level by implementing an expanded voluntary hospital public reporting effort
based on registry data, as decided by the ACC Board of Trustees
. The ACC has collaborated with Heart Rhythm Society and The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions on this public reporting effort.
For the first time, all hospitals participating in NCDR have a Hospital Profile established on CardioSmart.org
, ACC’s patient-facing website dedicated to enhancing the patient-provider relationship. Through these profiles, patients, caregivers and other stakeholders are able to search hospitals based on specific criteria (location, hospital name, services provided, etc.) and learn about every participating hospital’s quality measurement efforts through the NCDR.
Follow these steps to find your hospital’s profile page:
- Go to CardioSmart.org/findahospital
- Search for your hospital name
- Click on "Go to profile page" under your hospital name
Hospital Profile pages exactly reflect the information that Registry Site Managers input into their NCDR Site Profile. When a Registry Site Manager updates information in the NCDR Site Profile, the update will be reflected on CardioSmart.org

The ACC has developed a Communications Kit
with tools designed to be plugged into a hospital’s communications channels, making it easy to spread the word about the Hospital Profiles. Your hospital’s Site Manager(s), clinical care team and communications team should begin working together immediately to develop a custom communications plan regarding this initiative. To access the Communications Kit, you must activate your individual ACC Quality Improvement for Institutions account
- ACC members: Enter your ACC (CardioSource) login information (not your NCDR login), under the “Login” section. Once logged in, select your facility from the drop-down list.
- Non-ACC members: Fill out the registration form under “Register”, create an ACC (CardioSource) login, and select your facility from the drop-down list.

Voluntary Hospital Public Reporting
In late 2014 or early 2015, hospitals participating in the CathPCI Registry and/or ICD Registry will have the option to take part in an ACC public reporting effort. Eligible hospitals who voluntarily
agree to report their data from these registries will have the opportunity to publically demonstrate their commitment to quality improvement. The following measures have been identified for public reporting:

, patients will be able to review hospitals based on their demographics and publically reported data in order to understand the quality of care being provided in their area and make informed choices.
Public reporting is a strategic objective
of the College. The ACC also has developed a health policy statement
addressing the growing role of public reporting in health care.
How to Participate in Voluntary Hospital Public Reporting
The public reporting opt-in period is open. Hospitals that plan to publicly report their data for the above measures should submit a separate Data Release Consent Form for each registry they plan to report on. Further details about the consenting process and overall program content are contained in the program requirements document.
The ACC encourages hospitals to take advantage of this quality reporting opportunity. Stay tuned for additional information about what it will mean to your facility to publicly report this data.
